1200年の伝統！山里で生まれた秘技
柳行李という籠をご存じだろうか。
昭和の時代には、着物を仕舞う容れ物として家の押し入れの中に入っていたり、銭湯の脱衣籠に使われている光景を覚えている方もいるのではないだろうか。
材料は柳の枝、防虫性に優れ通気も良く軽い、これで衣類の籠を作った人はスゴイと思うのだが、
その歴史は実に1200年前にさかのぼるのだそう。
正倉院にも柳行李が納められているという、恐るべし、先人の知恵。
その柳行李の生産を一手に引き受けてきた地がある。
兵庫県豊岡、日本一の生産量を誇るカバンの町として知られるこの地のルーツこそが、柳行李なのだ。
豊岡を南北に貫く円山川の両岸に柳が大量に自生していたことから生産が始まったという柳行李、江戸時代には藩の奨励を受け、最盛期には1万人の職人がいたという。
そんな豊岡の特産品も、プラスチックなどの台頭で見かけることが少なくなり、柳行李職人は次々とカバンの製造に携わるようになった。
しかし、唯一柳行李の伝統をただ一人守り続ける職人がいる。
豊岡市出石に工房を構える寺内卓己さんだ。
"1200 years of tradition! A secret born in a mountain village"
Do you know the basket called Yanagi Gyori?
Some people may remember seeing them in the Showa era, when they were kept in closets at home to store kimonos, or used as changing baskets in public baths.
The material is willow branches, which are insect repellent, breathable, and lightweight, and people who have made clothing baskets out of them think it's amazing.
Its history actually dates back 1200 years.
It is said that the Shoso-in Temple also houses a Yanagi Gyori, a formidable piece of wisdom from our ancestors.
There is a place that has been solely responsible for the production of lilywood.
Toyooka, Hyogo Prefecture, known as the town that boasts the highest production of bags in Japan, has its roots in Yanagi Gyori.
It is said that the production of willows began because there were large numbers of willows growing wild on both banks of the Maruyama River, which runs through Toyooka from north to south.It is said that during the Edo period, there were 10,000 craftsmen who were encouraged by the domain, and there were 10,000 craftsmen at its peak.
With the rise of plastic, these Toyooka specialty products became rarer, and Yanagi Gyori craftsmen began to become involved in the production of bags one after another.
However, there is one craftsman who continues to uphold the tradition of Yanagi Gyori.
Takumi Terauchi, who has a workshop in Izushi, Toyooka City.
“1200年的传统！住在山里的秘密”
你知道那个叫“柳行”的篮子吗？
有些人可能记得在昭和时代见过它们，当时它们被放在家里的壁橱里存放和服，
或者在公共浴室用作换尿布篮。
材料是柳枝，防虫、透气、轻便，用它制作衣篮的人都觉得很神奇。
它的历史实际上可以追溯到1200年前。
据说正仓院还供奉着柳行礼，这是我们祖先的伟大智慧。
有一个地方专门负责生产百合。
兵库县丰冈市被誉为日本箱包产量最高的城镇，其根源在于柳行里。
据说，柳树的制作是因为流经丰冈市南北的圆山川两岸有大量野生的柳树而开始的。
据说江户时代，有1万名工匠在制作柳树。受到域的鼓舞，巅峰时期有万工匠。
随着塑料的兴起，这些丰冈特产变得越来越稀有，柳行工匠开始陆续涉足箱包的制作。
然而，有一位工匠继续秉承柳行理的传统。
我是寺内匠，在丰冈市出石市设有工作室。
柳行李にこだわり続ける！
ただ一人の匠
柳行李の担い手が新たに現れないのは、需要の減少もさることながら、その膨大な仕事量のためだ。
1つ作り上げるまでに2週間かかるというのも大変な作業量だが、本当に大変なのはその前。
材料となるコリヤナギの栽培から柳行李職人の仕事は始まるのだ。
春に植え、夏から秋にかけては余分な芽を摘み消毒を施す。
12月に刈り取ったら束ねて越冬させ洗って皮剥き、乾燥、選別を経てようやく編めるまでにするのだ。
苦労の末整えた材料を使い、柳行李を編むところを拝見した。
その手さばきを見ていると、これを習得するのは並大抵のことではないと納得する。
なにしろ速い！硬い柳の枝を１本ずつ交互に上と下に曲げ、その間に麻糸を通していくのだが、
プロのピアニストが速弾きを披露するのと変わらない速さで、瞬く間に柳を弾いていく。
しかもそんな早業の間にも、１本ごとに違う柳の硬さを見極め、その状態によって力の入れ具合を変えて、曲げる角度を一定にしているというから恐れ入る。
30年を超える経験は、職人の指をセンサーに変えてしまったのだ。

The reason why new yanagigyori workers have not appeared is not only due to the decline in demand, but also due to the enormous amount of work involved.
The fact that it takes two weeks to create one is a huge amount of work, but the real challenge comes before that.
The work of a Yanagi Gyori craftsman begins with the cultivation of the willow tree that serves as the material.
Plant in the spring, and remove excess buds and disinfect them from summer to fall.
Once harvested in December, the trees are bundled and allowed to overwinter, washed, peeled, dried, and sorted before they can be woven.
I watched them weave yanagi-gori using the materials they had painstakingly prepared.
Watching him use his hands, I am convinced that it is no mean feat to master this skill.
It's fast! The hard willow branches are bent up and down one by one, and the hemp thread is threaded between them.
In the blink of an eye, he plays the yanagi at the same speed as a professional pianist.
What's more, even during such quick maneuvers, he assesses the hardness of each willow tree and changes the amount of force applied depending on its condition, keeping the angle of bending constant.
More than 30 years of experience has turned the craftsman's fingers into sensors.
“继续坚持柳行理！唯一的工匠”
之所以没有出现新的柳行工人，不仅是因为需求下降，还因为涉及的工作量巨大。
事实上，创建一个需要两周的时间，这是一项巨大的工作量，但真正的挑战在此之前。
柳行工匠的工作从作为材料的柳树的栽培开始。
春季定植，夏季至秋季摘除多余芽并消毒。
12 月收获后，树木会被捆扎起来并进行越冬、清洗、去皮、干燥和分类，然后才能进行编织。
我看着他们用精心准备的材料编织柳戈里。
看着他的双手，我确信掌握这项技能绝非易事。
速度很快！坚硬的柳枝一根一根地上下弯曲，麻线穿在它们之间。
眨眼间，他就以与专业钢琴家相同的速度弹奏柳琴。
更重要的是，即使在如此快速的动作中，他也会评估每棵柳树的硬度，并根据其状况改变施加的力量，保持弯曲角度恒定。
30多年的经验将工匠的手指变成了传感器。
故郷の誇りを残したい！
未来を夢見て
硬くて丈夫な柳の枝、全体重をかけしっかり足で踏まないと作業ができない。
よって仕事中は常にしゃがんだまま、「腰痛は職業病」だと笑う寺内さん。
ＡＩが人の代わりをしてくれ始めている昨今、究極のアナログである柳行李の職人を目指す人はほとんどいないという。
少ないながらも、これまで幾人かの弟子入り志願者を教えてきた寺内さん、しかし柳行李を編めるまでの辛抱と経験を積めるまで成長した人はいなかったのだそう。
「それでもあきらめません、これは残さなアカン技なんです」
絶やしてはいけない手仕事が、関西の深い山の奥でひっそりと紡がれている。

You cannot work on the hard and durable willow branches unless you put all your weight on them and firmly step on them.
As a result, Mr. Terauchi is constantly squatting while working, and laughs, saying, ``lower back pain is an occupational disease.''
Nowadays, as AI begins to replace humans, there are very few people who aspire to become the ultimate analog craftsman.
Mr. Terauchi has taught a small number of apprentices, but it seems that none of them have had the patience and experience to weave yanagi-gori.
“Still, I won’t give up, this is the last trick I have left.”
This handiwork, which must never cease, is quietly being spun deep in the mountains of Kansai.
"我要维护家乡的骄傲！梦想未来"
除非你把所有的重量都压在上面，用力踩在上面，否则你无法在坚硬耐用的柳枝上工作。
因此，寺内先生在工作时经常蹲着，并笑着说：“腰痛是一种职业病。”
如今，随着人工智能开始取代人类，渴望成为终极模拟工匠的人已经很少了。
寺内先生教过少数学徒，但似乎没有一个人有编织柳戈的耐心和经验。

这项永不停歇的手艺，正在关西大山深处静静地纺成。
